Victor Harbor R-7: leading by example

Victor Harbor R-7 School is recognised as a leader in the implementation of the Australian Curriculum.

Our school has had a focus on the implementation of Australian Curriculum English, Mathematics, History and Science with teachers aligning classroom programs to the new national curriculum being a key focus. Additional areas that are being phased in from 2014 include Geography, The Arts, Civics and Citizenship, Health and Physical Education, Technologies, Languages and Economics and Business.

In line with the Australian Curriculum we have a strong focus on seven general capabilities – literacy, numeracy, information and communication technology, critical and creative thinking, ethical behaviour, personal and social competence and intercultural understandin. There are also three cross curricular priorities – Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Cultures, Asia and Australia’s engagement and Sustainability.

Our students are taught the core knowledge, skills and understandings through a diverse and rich curriculum that includes English, Mathematics, The Arts, Science, Indonesian, Health and Physical Education and Humanities and Social Sciences (including History and Geography).

In addition our school reports reflect the Achievement standards for each year level. An important aspect of our work has been reflecting on our Pedagogy – the how of teaching.

Our staff are committed to the new South Australian policy titled TfEL – Teaching for effective learning in developing learning programs. They are committed to delivering quality and engaging Curriculum that provides students with access to their curriculum entitlement in the pursuit and promotion of success.
